Drinking a couple of glasses of wine may help clean the mind, a recent study suggests. Researchers have found that Low levels of alcohol consumption may help to cleanse the brain.
Everyone knows the fact that excessive drinking can cause bad effect on your health, but a recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) shows drinking a couple of glasses of wine may help to reduce inflammation and flush the brain of toxins, including those associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
However, high alcohol consumption damages glymphatic function and increases brain inflammation.
The findings were reported by Lead study author Dr. Maiken Nedergaard, of the Center for Translational Neuromedicine at URMC, and colleagues in the journal Scientific Reports.
Maiken Nedergaard said that Prolonged intake of excessive amounts of ethanol was found to damage the central nervous system.
“However, in this study, we have shown for the first time that low doses of alcohol are potentially beneficial to brain health, namely it improves the brain’s ability to remove waste,” says Maiken Nedergaard.
There is no surprise that excess alcohol intake can harm your health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, alcohol has affected more than 200 healths and each year the excessive intake causes around 3.3 million deaths across the globe.
Previous studies have shown that consuming low-to-moderate alcohol creates a risk of dementia, while heavy alcohol intake is associated with superior risk of cognitive decline.
“This study may help explain why this occurs. Specifically, low doses of alcohol appear to improve overall brain health,” said Dr. Maiken Nedergaard.
Additionally, the latest research has suggested that low-level alcohol consumption may do us good.
