Mazda on Wednesday announced that it is unveiling a revised 2018 Mazda6 at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show on November 29.
The 2018 Mazda6 will be the new iteration of its flagship Mazda6 sedan with several notable changes to the styling and power of the sedan.
The 2018 Mazda6 will include a new 2.5-liter gasoline engine which could compete with some of the eight-cylinder-powered competition. But it is also bringing the SKYACTIV-G engine which will come with the CX-9 crossover over to the 6 lineups. The current-generation SKYACTIV-G 2.5 offers up to 35 mpg (6.7 l/100km) on the highway and the new cylinder deactivation is expected to improve that score by as many as two points.
Mazda says, “The engine offers an effortless performance feel that is equal parts composure and excitement, which sounds just as pleasant as can be, and almost too good to be true. We’ll be happy with an added engine option in the lineup that puts a premium on performance.”
The new Mazda6 features a wider range of advanced safety technology in the form of Mazda’s i-ACTIVESENSE suite. Mazda has also made improvements to the sensors for the adaptive cruise control and it has also added a new 360-degree camera system.
Mazda didn’t explain how those power figures will look like. But it is looking like most of the exterior elements will remain the same with tweaks to the grille, the side paneling, and lower intake. Similarly, the interior will come with some refinement to the middle dashboard strip and straight-lined, full-length band.
