Smartphone App-Based Treatment can Help Treat the Symptoms of Depression

The World Health Organization announced depression as the world’s leading cause of illness and disorder. Experts have declared that smartphone apps are an effective treatment for depression as it can help treat symptoms of the condition.

Some worldwide health organizations and even companies are continuously trying to educate people and looking for solutions to diagnose, and help people with the condition. Experts are looking for potential ways to ease depression symptoms through yoga and sleep deprivation.

A team of researchers from Australia’s National Institute of Complementary Medicine (NICM), the University of Manchester, Harvard Medical School, and the Black Dog Institute inspected 22 different smartphone –based mental health treatment. The study involved 3,414 participants between the ages of 18-59 and suffered from some conditions such as bipolar disorder, insomnia, anxiety, major depression and mild depression. The result revealed that smartphone apps have the association with the reduction in people’s depression.

The finding further unveiled that smartphones can lead to monitor, manage and understand people’s mental health. The scientists suggested that these treatments are most effective for the people who are suffering from mild to moderate depression.

The researchers said that the ‘self-contained apps,’ the app did not reply some aspects such as clinician and computer feedback are more effective than ‘non-self-contained apps.’ This might be due to the scope of these particular apps.’

The scientists believe that there is no specific evidence to suggest this app-based solution but the ‘new digital way’ could be one of the steps of treating disorders.
