Google is launching its new UPI-based payment app called Google Tez in India Today and it is available on the Google Play Store. Tez is Google’s payment app specifically made for India and it makes a connection to a user’s bank account and for transactions through UPI interface. The company will hold a launch event in New Delhi where the company’s VP for Next Billion Users, Caesar Sen gupta, will be present. Finance Minister Arun Jaitely will be also present at the official launch, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The Google Tez app can be used to make many online transactions and payments like for movie tickets, utility bills. Meaning of Tez is fast in Hindi, which is the selling point of company’s new app.
Google Tez is available on Android and iOS and it is a standalone payments app which is powered by UPI, a payments protocol launched by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI).
The Google Tez app supports various local languages including Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu. The app is very user-friendly. After installing the app form Play Store it will ask you to enter your bank account number and verify of your ownership. You can easily send text message from your registered phone number through the interface of Tez app. After verification the Google will prompt you to add a UPI PIN and you can start making payments. You can also watch all your friends who are using Tez and can request and pay money.
The company said that it has partnered with popular services including, PVR Cinemas, Bus ticketing service RedBus, Domino’s Pizza, Jet Airways and DishTV.
Though, the Tez app is only launching in India today, Google may be roll out the service to other countries in Asia like Indonesia and Philippines.
