Nintendo Switch’s service online will cost $20/year and it is expected to launch in 2018 at some point, said the publisher today. Playing Switch games online is going to be free until the service launches.
You can avail a subscription for $4 for one-month and for $8a three-month subscription.
As Nintendo said previously, voice chat and online lobby features will not be available on the Switch. Instead, you should use them through a smartphone app that Nintendo will be launching this summer. A smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and allow you to invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and also to chat with friends in compatible games during online matches. However, a free, limited version will be available of this app for download in summer 2017.”
Nintendo says subscribers will get free versions of classic games in association with online features, citing Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Dr. Mario. Earlier, Nintendo said that subscribers will get access each month to a different game, but that plan has now changed.
Nintendo confirmed that this monthly plan has changed, telling Kotaku: “Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can enjoy ongoing access to a library of classic games with added online play. Users can play games as they want, as often as they like, and as long as their subscription is active.
Nintendo adds: “Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can play a wide variety of classic games and more games will be announced at a later date. At launch it will include NES games. Super NES games are under consideration.
