TIRANA - Entry into the market of domestic production has decreased somewhat vegetable prices in the country. For three months, the price of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, green salad, etc.., were in maximum increasing further the cost of living in the country. It seems that this phenomenon is stopped when trader’s stalls are filled with local products which are normally sold at cheaper prices.
According to latest data from the Institute of Statistics, vegetables were the only daily consumer goods which have suffered price cuts. Vegetables have decreased by 12.6 per cent which has somewhat decreased the inflation by 0.1 percent compared to the previous months record of 4.1 percent.
Highest reduction was in cucumbers, which compared to March is selling about 50 percent cheaper, whilst tomatoes has decreased by 19 percent, spinach 23 percent and peppers decreased by 12 percent.
Fruits and food in general have increased compared to the previous month and this is mainly caused by the increase in fuel. Diesel has increase by 2.4 percent whilst unleaded has increased by 0.2 percent. (Anton Biba - Albanian Times)
I would say because of the massive drop in the local products in the next two months it's likely we will see deflation.
